Conversation on the Record “Still Feel Lucky” with Ben Danaher

I was always a music fan, but it never became a major part of my life, my identity, until college. When I got to Texas State, I started hanging around Cheatham Street Warehouse. Saw a lot of shows, and a lot of those shows featured Ben Danaher as an opener. Back in those college days, I was quick to decide that Ben had something, there was a real talent. As my radio career progressed, Ben started putting out records and releasing singles, which I was able to play at work.

A few years back, Ben was playing a gig in town, so he stopped by the station I was at to do an in-studio interview. That day he played me “My Father’s Blood”. It was all I could do to not ugly cry, the song was amazing. I knew that Ben was on to something with his writing and I couldn’t wait to hear what was next.

“Still Feel Lucky” is good, really good. While unintentional, Ben took his time and it paid off with a fantastic, well crafted collection of songs. As soon as I heard the first single “Jesus Can See You” I knew I had to have Ben do a Conversation on the Record. Since he was living in Nashville, I knew scheduling would be tricky. Back in March, Ben played the Kessler Theater and I recorded this episode then. And then I sat on it all summer until the September album release.
