Conversation on the Record “Jumping over Rocks” with Jamie Lin Wilson

Jamie Lin Wilson has been a favorite of mine since college. My friends and I went to Gruene Hall to celebrate my 21st birthday and the Gougers were the opening act. I held it together that night, but a fan behind my friends and I didn’t. Because of he couldn’t handle his beer, my friends had to purchase brand new Gougers shirts to continue on through the evening.

But enough of the past, Jamie’s new record “Jumping Over Rocks” is a statement. It’s been no secret that she is a ridiculously amazing songwriter, but as we discuss in my latest Conversation On The Record, she set out to make a record that had it’s own “vibe”. Producer and long-time collaborator Scott Davis took that idea and ran with it. Each song has so much detail, there is no missing the vibe. With players from the Band of Heathens, guitar from Charlie Sexton, and steel from Cody Angel, “Jumping Over Rocks” is one of those records you listen to with good sound, either speakers or headphones.

I’m glad Jamie made this record the way she did. It’s a true singer-songwriter effort in that each song has a timelessness to them. But they also have a fleeting quality as well, especially the tracks that give a glimpse of Jamie’s day to day life. Add in the production, and it’s the complete package.

And go see a show at Fort Worth Live while you’re at it. Brooks, Shannon, Rodney and their awesome team have made such a cool listening room in downtown Fort Worth. It’s where I recorded this episode, they have some really great shows lined up including their First Anniversary celebration. Check out Fort Worth Live HERE
